Ensure the legality and compliance of your commodity with applicable foreign trade laws in Indonesia before shipping.

Understanding Customs Regulations & Prohibitions-Restrictions

In international trade, each commodity has different legal treatment. In international trade, each commodity has different legal treatment. The Indonesian government implements a strict control system through Prohibitions and Restrictions (Lartas) to protect domestic industries, national security, and public health.

Why Should You Check the Regulations First?

Many business actors experience problems with cargo being held at ports, entering intensive Red Line inspections, and even having goods confiscated because they are not aware that the commodities they are carrying require special permits from the relevant ministries (such as the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Industry, or BPOM) before the ship docks.

Things You Should Check:
  • HS Code Classification (Tariff Post): Determines the amount of Import Duty, VAT, and Article 22 Import Income Tax accurately.
  • Prohibition and Restriction Status (Lartas): Check whether your goods require an Import Approval Letter (SPI), Surveyor Report (LS), or other restriction permits.
